Naugatuck Approved for State Funding to Install EV Charging Station

The funding is a part of a larger effort to make electric vehicle charging stations available across the state.

Naugatuck has been approved for up to $9,964 in state grant funds to install an electric vehicle charging station at the Naugatuck Train Station parking lot, the Republican-American reports.

In July, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental protection announced the availability of funds for municipalities to promote the use of electric vehicles.

Part of the EV Connecticut program, a partnership between DEEP and the Connecticut Department of Transportation, the EV Connecticut Incentives Program makes funding available for the installation of EV infrastructure across the state at no additional cost to the public.

According to the Republican-American, the Board of Mayor and Burgesses will decide whether to accept the grant.

“Connecticut’s cheaper, cleaner and more reliable energy future depends on EVs, which will put us on a path toward greater energy independence,” DEEP commissioner, Robert J. Klee said in a statement.
