“We have heard Naugatuck’s best days were behind us, Uniroyal, a booming downtown, we had businesses,” Olbrys said. “I’m here to tell you tonight that Naugatuck’s best days are not behind us. They’re in front of us.”
He said it will take a lot of “hard work” but priority one is to market Naugatuck’s great location, and as mayor he’ll call businesses to attract them to the borough and work to retain the one’s they have now.
Olbrys said more businesses means less of a burden on taxpayers. He noted Naugatuck’s tax rate is the third highest in the state.
He said the borough also needs to improve its education system, and that started with the selection of new Superintendent of Schools Sharon Locke. He said she will ensure better days are ahead for the school system.
He said he’ll work to have the schools partner with local universities and businesses to get them ready for the workforce.
