Naugatuck Coronavirus Updates: First Borough Resident Dies

NAUGATUCK, CT — The Naugatuck Valley Health District is reporting that there are 120 confirmed coronavirus cases in Naugatuck and that the first Borough resident has died.

"Since our last update on Saturday, April 18th, 2020, NVHD has received 53 new reports of laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases across the Valley, bringing the district’s total to 808 cases," the health district shared.

"Sadly, NVHD was notified of the first COVID-19 associated death among a Naugatuck resident, a woman in her 80s. Additionally, NVHD was made aware of five COVID-19 associated deaths among nursing home residents in Shelton. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who have passed away due to complications from this virus."

"The deaths reported to NVHD today occurred within the last week, not necessarily since the last NVHD report. For public health surveillance, laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 associated deaths are defined as patients who tested positive for COVID-19 around the time of death; this is not a determination of the cause of death. The health district does not have any further details including whether or not there may have been underlying health issues. The COVID-19 associated deaths reported by NVHD to-date have been confirmed through laboratory testing."

"Of the 71 deceased, 64 were residents of nursing homes or assisted living facilities. The COVID-19 associated deaths reported to-date by NVHD have been confirmed through laboratory testing.
As of 5:00PM on Monday, April 20, 2020, 227 (~28%) of the 808 confirmed cases among Valley residents, are individuals who currently reside in a nursing home, assisted living facility, group home, or other similar setting."
