A Naugatuck elementary school was briefly evacuated due to a "burning odor" inside the building, according to fire officials.
NAUGATUCK, CT β A Naugatuck elementary school was briefly evacuated Thursday morning due to a "burning odor" inside the building, according to fire officials.
In a Facebook post, fire officials said crews were called to Western Elementary School just before 10:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a burning odor in part of the building.
School staff evacuated the building in an orderly fashion before firefighters arrived, with all students and staff accounted for by the principal, fire officials said.

Firefighters found the source of the odor in an auxiliary heating unit and removed it from the area using fans. Crews also monitored the area for carbon monoxide and found none, according to fire officials.
Students were later allowed back inside their classrooms. The heating unit was shut off, red tagged and referred to facilities maintenance, fire officials said.
