Naugatuck Firefighter Honored with Franklin Johnson Sr. Citizenship Award
The ceremony took place Thursday evening at Jesse' Camille Restaurant.

John DeBisschop, a lieutenant in the Naugatuck Fire Department and Chairman of the Naugatuck Veterans Council was honored with the annual Franklin Johnson Sr. Citizenship Award Thursday evening at Jesse’s Camille Restaurant, the Republican-American reports.
DeBisschop, a Navy veteran is a revered community leader. According to the paper, he is chairman of the Naugatuck Veterans Council and chairman of Post No. 17’s Americanism and Children and Youth Committees. He was also named Naugatuck’s firefighter of the year in 2013.
DeBisschop volunteers with children’s scout groups and is a member of the National Ski Patrol at Mount Southington Ski Area.

According to the paper, the award is presented to someone who exemplifies what it means to be a good citizen.
Thursday’s event raised $1,000 for American Legion Post No. 17.
