Naugatuck High School Coach Named 'Coach Of The Week' By New York Giants

NAUGATUCK, CT — A Naugatuck High School coach has been named "Coach of the Week" by the New York Giants and Gatorade, according to a recent announcement.

In a news release, the Giants and Gatorade said NHS coach Chris Anderson was selected as the Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week for week six of the 2026 season.

According to the release, the Greyhounds defeated Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic (37-8) earlier this month to improve to 4-0 and earn Anderson his 100th career head coaching victory.

The release notes a $2,000 grant from The Giants Foundation and Gatorade will also be presented to the school's football program in recognition of Anderson's selection as Coach of the Week.

He will also receive a certificate of recognition signed by Giants Head Coach John Harbaugh and be honored during a postseason dinner and at a 2027 preseason home game, according to the release.

The release notes the award is part of the Giants' continuing effort to support local high school football programs.

Each week during the high school football season, the Giants select one area high school head coach based on "the coach's continuing commitment towards promoting high school football, developing motivated student-athletes and contributing overall to their community," the release reads.

According to the release, Anderson took over the Greyhounds program in 2021 and previously helped coach ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky to a Class LL state championship as an assistant coach at Shelton High School in 2001.

He also served as head coach at Woodland Regional High School in Beacon Falls, where he guided the Hawks to back-to-back Connecticut Class SS State Championships in 2004 and 2005, and served as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at the University of New Haven, according to the release.

Anderson said in the release he was "honored and humbled" to be named Coach of the Week and thanked the Giants for selecting him, as well as all of his assistant coaches and the athletes he has coached throughout his career.
