NAUGATUCK - Congratulations are in order for Nicholas Albanese. The long-time custodian in the Naugatuck Public School district will retire at the end of the school year.

Albanese will retire with over 30 years of service to the district. He began his long career in the schools at Maple Hill Elementary, where the students and faculty called him “Mr. Nick.” It was a pleasure to work with him while we worked together at Maple Hill.

After Maple Hill, he moved to City Hill Middle School, Cross Street Intermediate, Andrew Avenue Elementary and finally to Naugatuck High School. During the years of 2006-2010, he worked in the district maintenance department.

Nicholas Albanese Jr. will be stepping into his father’s position at the high school. The younger Alabanese began working in the Naugatuck Public Schools at Prospect Street School, then worked at Cross Street with his dad for a decade. He then moved to Hillside Intermediate School, Andrew Avenue and then became the pool engineer at Naugatuck High School.

The third member of the Albanese family working in the Naugatuck Schools is Mr. Nick’s daughter Nicole. She first worked at the Early Childhood Center as a teacher’s aid and now works at Naugatuck High School in the school cafeteria.

Mr. Nick is looking forward to relaxing at the beginning of his retirement, then working on his “honey-do” list. He then plans to enjoy going out in his kayak.

During his time in the Naugatuck Schools, Albanese has interacted with a host of students of all ages who join me in wishing him a long and happy retirement.
