Naugatuck High School Staff Save a Life

Thanks to the quick thinking of three faculty member at the high school, a student survived a medical emergency.

Three staff members at Naugatuck High School used quick thinking and medical training to save a student's life.

On Nov. 14, 2024, a medical incident involving a student took place at the high school. Michael Harte, a high school teacher who works as Transition Coordinator, was called into a classroom by paraeducators Lisa Chiaramonte and Debra Clemmons for a student experiencing a medical emergency.

Harte, who is a medically trained firefighter, performed a life saving procedure which enabled the student to resume normal breathing.

Harte explained that the quick thinking of Chiaramonte and Clemmons, along with his medical training, "are a perfect example of why basic medical training is so important."

As the instructor for Naugatuck High School's "Intro to Firefighting," Harte, along with Naugatuck Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Walter Seaman, is presently in the process of certifying over 20 students enrolled in the class to be able to perform C.P.R. and basic first aid.
