Naugatuck Man Accused Of Trying To Break Into Car: Police

Police said they responded to an area near a local restaurant on a report of a suspicious person.

NAUGATUCK, CT β€” A Naugatuck man, Daniel James Halligan, 39, of Lewis Street, is accused of trying to break into a vehicle near a local restaurant, police said.

At 7:05 p.m. on May 7, police responded to 56 Bridge Street in the area of New Moon Restaurant on a reported suspicious person going through a motor vehicle, police said.

"Upon the officer's arrival they were met by the accused outside the vehicle, and he appeared to be under the influence," Naugatuck police said. "The accused was upset and stating he left items in the motor vehicle. Through the officer's investigation it was found that the accused was trying to break into and take items from the motor vehicle. The accused was also found in possession of a controlled substance."

Halligan is charged with third-degree burglary, criminal attempt at sixth-degree larceny and possession of a controlled substance. He was released on a $2,500 bond.
