Police say the man initially resisted arrest but was later taken into custody.

NAUGATUCK, CT β€” A Naugatuck man is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond after police say he assaulted a female victim. On March 11 at 12:37 a.m. officers responded to a residence on a report of a domestic dispute.

Paul Niedmann, 64, of Cherry Street, became involved in an argument with the victim that escalated and became physical when, according to the victim, the accused push the victim and wouldn't allow her to leave the residence, police said.

When officers arrived, the accused failed to cooperate with the officer’s investigation, and refused to exit a vehicle where he had a knife in arm's reach, police said. Niedmann resisted, but was eventually taken into custody, police said.
