Naugatuck Man Places Laundry Detergent in Car's Exhaust: Police

Police say the incident was part of a tenant dispute.

NAUGATUCK, CT — A Naugatuck man is accused of placing laundry detergency in a vehicle's exhaust as part of a tenant dispute, police said.

Police said at 7:12 p.m. on Jan. 2 officers responded to 1273 Rubber Avenue Extension for a tenant dispute. The victim arrived at the residence to retrieve property and a vehicle, police said. When the victim started the vehicle a foamy liquid came out of the exhaust, police said.

Police say Evaldo Brito, 48, of Rubber Avenue put laundry detergent into the vehicle's exhaust.

He is charged with first-degree criminal mischief and released on a $500 bond. He is due to appear in court on Jan. 11.
