Naugatuck Officials Pledge to be Environmentally Friendly in Policy Making

A pledge drafted by officials was voted into effect 9-0.

Naugatuck officials voted a two page pledge into effect on Tuesday that will serve as the guiding philosophy in making policy decisions in an effort to protect the environment, the Republican-American reports.

The borough is currently facing environmental issues that include federally mandated upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant and a proposed gas-fired electric generating plant in Oxford that will pour discharge into the Naugatuck sewage plant.

According to the paper the goal of the policy is an overall sustainable and healthy community design.

There are eight specific objectives officials hope to achieve to make the borough environmentally friendly, the paper reports.
