The vote to appoint the new deputy chief was 4 to 2.

NAUGATUCK, CT β The Naugatuck Police Department's newest Deputy Police Chief is Christopher Colin McAllister, who earned the promotion at a Board of Police Commissioners meeting late last month.
Mayor Pete Hess opened the discussion at the police commission meeting "voicing his concern that LT. Brian Newman should be appointed Deputy Chief of Police due to his commitment to the department for the past 20 years, his passion, experience and his grit to stay," according to meeting minutes.
However, Hess stressed that "he believes C. Colin McAllister is fit for the job and will also be successful and great leader in the Deputy Chief position, however he wanted to be on the record that he does oppose the decision for the appoint."
