Naugatuck Police Comment on Platts Mill River Park Area
The Naugatuck Police Department emphasizes that this area is not safe for swimming.

Naugatuck, CT - Earlier this week the Naugatuck Police Department was contacted by several concerned citizens regarding the Borough of Naugatuck's Platts Mill River Park area. It was determined a large group of people descended on the area and made access to the river. As a result, the area was left in such poor state that community members staged a clean-up effort to remove trash and debris left by these park attendees. The Naugatuck Police Department, in partnership with the Borough's Parks Department will be ordering The Platts Mill River Access Area closed this weekend. Additional closures will be determined at a later time. Naugatuck Police will post additional patrols in the area as well.

The Naugatuck Police Department emphasizes that this area is not safe for swimming and is intended for light use that will allow citizens to enjoy the natural beauty of the Naugatuck River. Camp fires, open consumption of liquor, and activities that will deteriorate this area are strictly prohibited and enforcement action may be taken. Moving ahead, the Naugatuck Police Department thanks those community partners who are invested in keeping our community as clean and litter-free as possible. We remain fully committed to working with the public to ensure the river and its recreational areas continues its environmental recovery.
