Naugatuck Police, Fire Departments Seek Budget Increases: Report
The two public safety departments reportedly are each seeking budget increases next year in excess of 4 percent over current allocations.
NAUGATUCK, CT — The borough's police and fire departments each are seeking budget increases next year in excess of 4 percent of their current allocations, which combined totaled $12.2 million in 2021-22.
For 2022-23, the police department is seeking $7.7 million for operations, a 4.8 percent bump from this year, while the fire department is proposing a $4.8 million budget, up 4.6 percent from 2021-22, My Citizen's News reported.
Nearly half of the police increase is in salaries, but the department also is looking to hire a full-time social worker, at a cost of $74,000.

On the fire department side, an increase in overtime pay represents the largest bump in the proposed budget, at more than $168,000.
Naugatuck's annual budget will not be finalized until May. The new fiscal year begins July 1.
