Naugatuck Police Officer Kosky, K9 Vane Assist Watertown Police
The K-9 and officers were able to track and locate the second two suspects in this Aug. 3 incident in Watertown.

Naugatuck, CT - The Naugatuck Police Department would like to recognize Officer Ian Kosky and his canine partner Vane for their role in apprehending the suspects from an incident on August 3, 2019.
From the NPD post: "Any suspects who would strike a police cruiser during the course of their criminal endeavors pose a risk not only to our fellow officers but also to our communities and we are glad that Officer Kosky and K9 Vane were able to assist our partners at the Town of Watertown Police Department in their apprehension."

On 8/3/19, the midnight shift, Sergeant Paquin, Officers Donston, Raimo and Marinaro responded to the area of Litchfield Road and Wilder Street for the report of a suspicious minivan with occupants checking for unlocked vehicles parked in the neighborhood. Officer Donston located the vehicle on Wilson Drive along with a second vehicle driving with the dome light on. As the officer approached, the vehicle which was found to be stolen from Waterbury, sped at the officer’s vehicle, sideswiping it causing it to become disabled. The passengers all fled on foot after the crash. Officer’s engaged the suspects in a foot pursuit. Two of the suspects were caught immediately and a short time later a Naugatuck Police K-9 Unit responded to assist in the search. The K-9 and officers were able to track and locate the second two suspects.
All four juvenile suspects, ranging from fifteen to seventeen years old were placed under arrest and charged with larceny 1st Degree, interfering with an officer, assault on a public safety officer and burglary 3rd degree. The suspects were found with property in their possession connecting them to numerous thefts from motor vehicles in Watertown and the suspects had numerous key fobs from other unknown vehicles on them. All of the arrestees were remanded to the CT Juvenile Detention, pending arraignment on 8/5/19 in the Waterbury Juvenile Court. Due to their status as juveniles, no information on their identity will be released. The officer was not injured in the crash.
