On 3/29/19 Officer Joaquim "Jack" DeOliveira signaled out on his last shift with the Naugatuck Police after completing over 20-years with the department. Officer DeOliveira has served in many different roles from patrol officer, field training officer, detective, task force officer with the Department of Homeland Security, and most recently as managing the department’s evidence room and serving as court liaison officer.

Officer DeOliveira helped countless people between his friendly manner and his fluent Portuguese to translate and provide aid in times of need to some of the most vulnerable members of the immigrant community. Officer DeOliveira pointed to his family and coworkers as his greatest help in having a successful career. In fact, his family made sure they were waiting to meet him as he got out of his cruiser after his last shift.

Officer DeOliveira said his favorite role was a trainer to new officers-a role he would still embrace by always taking a moment to explain, demonstrate, and share his knowledge with the department’s newest officers right up until his retirement. On behalf of the Naugatuck Police Department we thank you for your service and wish you the best in retirement!
