Naugatuck Students, School Staff Required To Wear Masks This Fall

NAUGATUCK, CT — In an effort to avoid the spread of the delta variant of the coronavirus, masks will be required for students and staff in Naugatuck Public Schools this fall, officials recently outlined on the district's website.

All K-12 classes will be in person, and masks are only required when inside, not outside, in accordance with state guidelines. Those guidelines and requirements will be monitored and could change.

School starts on Sept. 1 in Naugatuck, and other requirements include:

• Physical distancing of at least three (3) feet will be maintained in all school buildings
• Students in preschool through grade 8 will be placed in cohorts whenever possible
• Contact tracing will be conducted in collaboration with the Naugatuck Valley Health District
• Schools will be cleaned and disinfected according to the established procedures aligned with CDC guidelines
• NPS will continue to collaborate with Naugatuck Valley Health District and Griffin Hospital to host and/or publicize vaccination clinics
• NPS will maintain health and safety protocols and policies to safeguard the health and wellness of staff including, but not limited to: frequent handwashing; isolation rooms; self-screening at home; referrals for diagnostic testing; and when to stay home

If the state closes schools due to the pandemic, Naugatuck will transition to remote learning, officials said.
