Naugatuck Tax Collector Faces Discipline After Altering Resident's Check: Report
A resident noticed her check had been changed and the town employee admitted to making the change, according to WFSB 3 TV.

NAUGATUCK, CT — Mayor Pete Hess said Tax Collector Jim Goggin faces discipline after it came to light that he altered a tax check, WFSB 3 TV reports. A Naugatuck woman said she wrote a check for her car taxes and noticed it had been altered from $373.70 to $373.90, WFSB 3 TV reports.
The resident complained and Goggin admitted he did change the check by $0.20 cents. Goggins told WFSB 3 TV that he'll never do it again and refunded the woman the 20 cents. He also admitted that some things have been changed to within a quarter "to make things work."
Mayor Hess said Goggin is wrong and the matter has been referred to Human Resources for discipline. Town auditors will also conduct a thorough review of the office, the Mayor promised.
