Naugatuck Valley Health District Collecting Items For Diaper Bank
The Naugatuck Valley Health District is holding a July diaper drive benefiting the Diaper Bank of Connecticut.
NAUGATUCK, CT — The Naugatuck Valley Health District is holding a diaper drive benefiting the Diaper Bank of Connecticut for the month of July.
According to the health district, the Diaper Bank works to provide basic health needs to individuals throughout lifespans. The crux of their mission is distributing infant and toddler diapers to families who can't afford them and would otherwise go without.
"Caregivers who can't afford enough diapers sometimes resort to leaving their infants and toddlers in soiled diapers, which can lead to diaper rash, urinary tract infections and other health problems," Director of Health Jessica Kristy said in an email. "Access to diapers not only improves babies' overall health and well-being; it supports caregivers' mental health and can lessen the risk of child abuse by reducing stressors that interfere with the developing parent-child relationship."
