Naugatuck Won’t Pay For Fizzled Fireworks Display

NAUGATUCK, CT — The company hired to put on the Naugatuck Fourth of July fireworks display will pay for damages and other costs after the show ended abruptly due to a ground-level detonation, according to Citizen’s News.

The News reports Mayor Pete Hess said the borough won’t pay anything for the show and Central Maine Pyrotechnics will pay $5,070 for damages and overtime costs related to the explosion at Breen Field.

Officials blamed "a significant malfunction" for the abrupt end to the July 2 fireworks show. The Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosive Investigation Unit is still investigating what caused the explosion.

No one was injured in the incident.
