São Paio 5K Returns For 52nd Year

NAUGATUCK, CT — One of Connecticut’s longest-running road-race traditions will return to Naugatuck next month.

The 52nd annual São Paio 5K Road Race, Fun Walk and Kids Fun Run is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Portuguese Club, C.U.P., 110 Rubber Ave.

The event is billed by organizers as Connecticut’s longest continuously running 5K. The borough’s race notice says the event is sponsored by the Portuguese Club, C.U.P.

Race-day registration and packet pickup will run from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. The 5K begins at 9 a.m., followed by the fun walk at 9:15 a.m. The Kids Fun Run for children 12 and younger begins at 10 a.m.

According to the United Way of Naugatuck & Beacon Falls, proceeds will support the organization’s work helping local residents in need. The race follows a mostly flat course along the Naugatuck River, organizers said.

Pre-registration for runners costs $30, while race-day registration costs $35. The fee is $15 for students and walkers and $5 for the Kids Fun Run. Participants who pre-register by Aug. 22 will receive a T-shirt.

Strollers and baby joggers will not be allowed on the course, according to the borough’s notice. Online registration is available through RunSignup.
