New Grocery Store Opens on Quinn Street

For the second time in a year, a new store has opened at the vacant Marty's Corner in Naugatuck.

A new grocery store at Marty’s Corner in Naugatuck will be holding its grand opening ceremony on Friday.

Quinn Street Grocery Store was already open on Thursday, selling food, cigarettes and other items to customers, although owner Ruhi Tumyol said the store plans on holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. outside the 161 Quinn St. location.

Tumyol, a resident of nearby Hoadley Street who co-ownes the store with his wife, Kathy, said he’s invited Mayor Robert Mezzo and state Rep. Rosa Rebimbas to attend.

The store owners said they plan on doing a cookout and giving away coffee to customers.

The store offers a regular assortment of grocery items, including frozen foods, boxed goods and Boar’s Head deli meat, among other items.

Tumyol said he wanted to open the grocery store because the vacant storefront area “needed a little blood.”

a Stratford couple, Steve and Beth Leithton, opened up Mr. And Mrs. L’s Deli at the same location, but the couple reportedly closed the place sometime after Tropical Storm Irene came through town.
