NVCC Multicultural Affairs Presents Amusing Musings on Being Bicultural by a “Dominican-York.”
The Multicultural Affairs Committee at Naugatuck Valley Community College has planned the first of many events this fall.

WATERBURY– The Multicultural Affairs Committee at Naugatuck Valley Community College has planned the first of many events this fall to kick-off the 2017-2018 academic year.

Robert Chase, M.S.W., LCSW will discuss how immigration in a small world calls for biculturalism and bilingualism. He will explore linguistic and cultural variables and the comical examples of errors. Chase will speak dearly and personally about the benefits of bilingualism and biculturalism, on being adroit and adaptable, on helping others to thrive and on feeling at home within the cultures.
Chase has worked for thirty years as a social worker, pre-trial competency monitor, and expert witness for the State of Connecticut. He taught psychology and Spanish at schools including Asnuntuck Community College, Tunxis Community College, the University of Saint Joseph, and the Yale Center for Language Studies. He began traveling and making friends in the Dominican Republic more than thirty years ago, where he met and married his wife, Clarisa Medina. She became a Dominican-American citizen; he became an American-Dominican citizen; both worked at learning, appreciating, and being able to thrive in each other’s linguistic and cultural realities.
Please join us on October 4, 2017 from 11:30-1:00 pm in L501 for a lecture on Amusing Musings on Being Bicultural by a “Dominican-York.” The event is free and open to the public.
