Naugatuck Valley Community College President and Foundation Establish COVID-19 Student Emergency Fund
DANBURY, WATERBURY- The NVCC Foundation Board of Directors, in collaboration with President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, established the NVCC Foundation COVID-19 Student Emergency Fund to assist NVCC students struggling with financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The intention of this fund is to help meet the immediate needs of NVCC students during this crisis so they can experience peace of mind and academic success.
President De Filippis commented on the foundation’s proactive generosity and campus engagement. “I am particularly grateful to the NVCC Foundation for their support of our students and colleagues who are busy preparing grant proposals in support of access and equity at NVCC's two campuses. Thank you as well to all those who have reached out to me with words of encouragement and question. The NVCC family is strong, smart and generous.”
Martha Bernstein, Chair of the Foundation commented on the timing of the fund. “In these unprecedented times, we need to be there for students and set an example that may inspire others to do the same.”
Charles Pagano, Vice-Chair of the Foundation Board echoed Bernstein’s sentiments “If life were perfectly planned, then the mission of the Foundation would be different. The Foundation was founded and nurtured to help students get over the unplanned emergencies that hit us when we least expect them. The Foundation is happy to make a difference in this role!”
