Al was born in Waterbury, CT on November 19, 1939, son of the late Pietro and Maria (Mariotti) Generali. Al graduated from Crosby High School, and also attended the University of Connecticut and New Haven College. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, Al served his country during the Vietnam conflict and also served with the Connecticut National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve.

Al began his working career at an early age in the sixth grade. He worked as an apprentice T.V. repairman and as an antenna installer and continued in these roles through his high school years. He then spent ten years employed by Conn. Light and Power Company as a customer representative in the accounting department.

He began his insurance career in 1968, as a Group Insurance Representative for CT General Life Insurance Company. In 1970, he joined his brother, Lou, in forming Administrative Consultants Inc. (A.C.I.) in New York City. While always retaining a sales presence in New York, they built their operations headquarters in Waterbury in 1974. They were leaders in building computer systems and in the administration of employee benefit programs that serviced the insurance industries. They listed many large corporations and insurance companies as their clients and employed as many as one hundred and fifty gifted systems people and administrators.

Al served as A.C.I.’s president for twenty-seven years until A.C.I. became part of London-based Jardine Group Services Corporation in 1997. Al then became Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Jardine for its U.S. Operations, retiring in 2002.

Not happy with retirement, Al, along with his son, David, and David’s wife, Kristin, formed the Generali School of Literature and the Arts, LLC, in 2008. GSLA is an early childhood learning center that serves children from six weeks old to six years of age. The school achieved success early on and employs twenty-four teachers and serves seventy-five children. Al was the school’s managing partner and Chief Financial Officer.

Al was also a member of the American Legion, the Waterbury Chamber of Commerce, the Watertown Golf Club, the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Programs, the American Society of Employee Benefit Administrators, and the Professional Insurance Marketing Association.

Al will always be remembered as a leader and a friend to all those he worked with.

Al always found time to do the things he loved; socializing and playing cards with his many friends, following his beloved New York Yankees and New York Giants, playing golf at the Watertown Golf Club, and socializing with his many friends at Roma Ristorante.

Al and Linda enjoyed traveling, especially taking cruises to many of the European countries, Scandinavia, the British Isles, Russia, Mexico, Alaska, the Panama Canal, Bermuda and the Caribbean.

Al was a great story teller and like to quote Longfellow, “He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often.” Well, he always found time for that.

Al leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife Linda, and his children, Dr. Ann Generali and her partner Julie of Chicago, Illinois, Christine Generali Curcio and her husband Enrico of Stow, MA, and David Generali and his wife Kristin of Middlebury, Connecticut. He also leaves three stepsons, Martin Hipsky of Delaware, Ohio, David Hipsky and his wife Susan of Blue Hill, Maine, and Brian Hipsky of Atlanta, Georgia. He also leaves behind his brother, Louis Generali of Vero Beach, Florida, his twelve grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Edmund, Mario and Orlando Generali, and Yolanda Cicchiello.

Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, 10:00 a.m. at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Waterbury. A graveside service will be held at a later date to be determined. There will be no calling hours and everyone is asked to meet directly at the church.
