Mrs. Anna Marie “Mary” (Distefano) Stender, formerly a long time resident of Waterbury, entered into the gates of Heaven on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at The Pines at Bristol Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation. She was the loving wife of the late Munro O. Stender who passed away in 2003.
Mary was born in Waterbury on February 15, 1925, a daughter of the late Antonio & Elisa (Cofrancesco) Distefano. She attended Slocum Grammar School, was a graduate of Wilby High School, and attended Post Junior College. She was employed at the Uniroyal Company Inc. for over 16 years followed by a second long career at Aljim Foods. Mary later worked for the B.J. Wholesale Club for fifteen years until she retired at 90. Mary enjoyed her grandkids, the casino and taking care of her home.

Mary leaves her two sons, Gregg Stender of Waterbury, and Mark Stender and his wife Jean of Cape Coral, FL, her six loving grandchildren, Dana Prignano and her husband Paul of Avon, David Stender of South Windsor, Todd Stender and his wife Katherine of Canton, Brad Stender and Diana Croitoru of Tampa, FL, Kyle Stender and Kirstine Pederson of Farmington and Daniel Tedesco of Los Angeles, CA. Mary was predeceased by a brother, Mario Distefano and 2 sisters, Rachel Membrino and Edith DeFiore.
Arrangements: Funeral will be held, Saturday January 15, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury to Mary Mother of the Church Parish ~ St. Leo the Great Church, 14 Brentwood Drive, Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at the Calvary Garden Mausoleum. Calling hours will be held Saturday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
