Born on May 1, 1933 in Waterbury, Tony was the son of the late Salvatore and Faustina (DeGregorio) Massaro. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School and of the Waterbury Police Academy. He was a proud Waterbury police officer, having retired after 27 years as a patrolman. Tony was raised with a deep devotion to God and served as an alterboy for St. Thomas Church for many years. As an adult, Tony attended church regularly and took his children and grandchildren to different local churches every week.
Tony was a hard-working husband and father. He taught his children to not only work hard but to make time for family, as family was most important. As the family grew, “Pop”, as he was known to his grandkids and then great-grandkids, was happiest spending time with family. Holidays, cooking, Friday night pizza and Sunday Dinners were the best times of his retirement years. As more great-grandchildren arrived, Pop was known as the “Baby Whisperer”; always able to get the babies to sleep. His loving and nurturing demeanor extended to the causes he cared about including animals and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. He was an avid NY Yankee fan, enjoyed collecting coins, loved sweets of all kinds and was passionate about world history.
