Obituary: Burton Lloyd Conway, 71, of Prospect

Burton Lloyd Conway, 71, of Prospect, passed away at home on Thursday, February 2, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family after a valiant battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Patricia (Capece) Conway. Burton was born on March 30, 1951 to the late Dorothy (Boyle) and Lloyd Conway.

Pat and Burt were married fifty wonderful years and were blessed with daughters Melissa and Jessica. Burt held many positions in his lifetime, ultimately purchasing agent was his favorite position. After retiring from Torrco in 2017, he took a part time position at Auto Zone where he continued to make friends as he did wherever he went. He and Pat played cards with a group of close friends and family for almost fifty years.

Burt was an avid Giant and Yankees fan, he really enjoyed the rivalry with his Red Sox fan friends. Since his teenage years he played guitar and was always looking for a new one to add to his collection. He loved his weekly golf game and although he found his love for it later in life he was always striving to improve. He devoted many hours to perfecting his aquarium and keeping his fish happy and healthy. Another new hobby was his love of birds and watching them enjoy his numerous bird feeders. You could always find him with a crossword puzzle in hand, even when ill in the hospital.

Burt was always the one to call when a project needed to be done. Always the handyman, he loved to do home improvements for not only his home but for family and friends. He was very proud of his 6 years spent serving in the National Guard. More than anything Burt loved spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. By far his favorite roles in life were Pat’s soulmate, Melissa and Jessica’s Dad and Papa to his adored grandchildren Gianna and Luca.

Left to cherish his love and memory besides his loving wife Pat, are his daughters Melissa and husband Gerry McLean of Naugatuck and Jessica and husband Nick Thompson of Waterbury and grandchildren Gianna and Luca McLean. Burt is also survived by his sisters Maria Cardinal (Francis) of Prospect and Margaret Garbatini. Burt also leaves many close friends.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7pm on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Prospect Memorial / The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd. in Prospect. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at St. Anthony Church, 4 Union City Rd. in Prospect. Army Military Honors will be rendered at the church following mass. Those planning to attend the funeral are asked to meet directly at church.
