Born in Waterbury on November 11, 1955, Charlie was the son of the late Joseph and Ann (Bartoletti) Longo. He enjoyed a childhood growing up in Waterbury’s north end, as well as the many summers he spent at the family’s lakefront cottage in Bethlehem. He graduated from La Salette Seminary in Cheshire and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of New Haven. Upon graduation in 1973, he started his career at United Auto.
Charlie’s world revolved around four rock solid pillars; His love of family, especially his children and grandchild, a laser focus on customer satisfaction, a very strong devotion to his Catholic faith and his dedication to the community where he lived and worked.

Charlie truly loved selling and servicing vehicles for a multitude of loyal customers. It warmed his heart to give honest and faithful service to them, always meeting and most times exceeding their expectations. He was equally pleased selling a new car to a customer or importantly avoiding the sale by repairing and keeping their existing vehicle on the road.

Charlie’s upbringing and his education at the Seminary was the foundation for his deep spirituality. He was a man of true faith, was a devoted Catholic and a longtime parishioner of his beloved Sacred Heart Church in Southbury. He often coordinated annual weekend retreats to the Holy Family Retreat Center, was active in the Men’s prayer group at Sacred Heart and participated in the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at the Immaculate Conception.

Charlie had a true heart of gold and always enjoyed giving back to others and his community. Working with the mayor, he organized a replacement Christmas Tree on the Waterbury green after the former tree was destroyed. As with many of us, he was wide-eyed as a youngster visiting downtown Waterbury at Christmas time.

Charlie was a humble man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He cherished summertime pontoon boat rides around Bantam Lake with family and friends. He was a member of the Bantam Lake Ski Club and served as the club’s emcee at its annual water ski show for nearly 40 years.
Charlie leaves behind to honor and cherish his memory his two children, Paul Longo and his wife Ashley of Watertown, Jaclyn Longo and her fiancé Brendan Adinolfi of Stamford, his beloved grandson Vincent Longo, his fiancé Pam Curley of Naugatuck, his two brothers, Joseph L. Longo Jr. and his wife Kathy of Middlebury, Peter F. Longo, and his wife Christine of Morris, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and his United Auto family including its dedicated staff and loyal customers.
