Obituary: Christine “Chris” Pryor Lynch, 81, of Granby

She worked as a nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, later took a position in the infirmary for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambéry.

Christine “Chris” Pryor Lynch, 81, of Granby, beloved wife for 55 years of the late Michael Joseph Lynch, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, July 16, 2021, at her home.

Born in Waterbury, CT on July 10, 1940, daughter of the late William and Peg (Fitzgerald) Pryor, she was raised in Waterbury and was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier School and Waterbury Catholic High School. After high school, Chris was accepted into the St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. She married Michael Joseph Lynch on September 19, 1964 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Waterbury, and the young couple moved to Granby where they started a new life together. Chris worked as a nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford and later took a position in the infirmary for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambéry in West Hartford where she worked for over 30 years until her retirement in 2004. Her love for people led her to work part-time in her retirement for several years at Granby Pharmacy.

She was a parishioner of St. Therese Parish in Granby for over 50 years where she was a faithful member of the Ladies Guild and served on many other groups and ministries over the years. An avid quilter, Chris was a part of the Granbees Quilt Group and the Connecticut Quilt Guild. While her children were growing up in Granby, she served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, as a Girl Scout Leader, and as a member of the Parent Teacher Association.

During her retirement, she and her husband traveled both domestically and internationally with their close friends the Foleys.

Chris never lost contact with her family from Waterbury and had recently had lunch with her sisters and cousins, Loretta, Clare, and Joanne. In her spare time, she enjoyed tending to the flower gardens around her home and spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She leaves three children, Paula Manzella and her husband Roger of Hainesport, NJ, Maura Fleming and her husband Shawn of Simsbury, and Robert Lynch and his wife Jennifer of Larchmont, NY; 11 grandchildren, Emily, Christopher, Bridget, and Catherine Manzella all of Hainesport, NJ, Mallory Hamilton and her husband Nicholas of Covington, KY, Brittany Fleming and fiancé Garon Miller of Winsted, Carter Fleming of Simsbury, and Makena, Ty, Harleigh, and Chance Lynch all of Larchmont, NY; three great-granddaughters, Lydia, Claudia, and MaryRose Hamilton; two sisters, Patricia Schaaf of Prospect and Margaret Loftus of Waterbury; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Pryor of Southington; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Michael Joseph Lynch, Jr.; and a brother, William Pryor, Jr.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday, July 22, 4-7 p.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. Family and friends may gather on Friday, July 23, 9 a.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. Therese Parish, Granby. Burial will be in Granby Cemetery, Granby at the convenience of the family.
