“Loving son and brother”
David Martins, 36, entered into the Gates of Heaven on Saturday May 25, 2024 at his residence. He was the loving son of Raul “Roy” and Maria (Vaz) Martins of Naugatuck.

David was born in Derby, CT on October 15, 1987. He graduated from Holy Cross High School Class of 2005 and earned his bachelor of science degree from Post University. He worked for the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections over a span of 11 impactful years. During that time he served as a temporary lieutenant and worked as part of the security division unit. He also joined the tactical CERT (Correctional Emergency Response Team) in 2019.
As of late, he was an instructor at the Cheshire Maloney Center for Training and Staff Development (DOC Academy) where he was responsible for teaching pre-service curriculum to all new cadets and was also in charge of the Physical Training Program for cadets. At the Academy, he also held the role of CPR & First Aid Instructor and Armorer.

In his spare time, David loved to spend time with family and friends and had a passion for mentoring others, especially the youth. He was a skilled soccer enthusiast, player and coach. David played on the Naugy Fusion Men’s Soccer Team, was the assistant soccer coach for Holy Cross High School, and previously at Sacred Heart High School. He was also the Host of DJ&P Podcast. He had an unbelievable ability to reach people in a deep and positive way, and leaves behind a legacy of devotion and service and a lasting influence on his family, friends and coworkers.
Besides his parents Roy & Maria, David leaves to honor and cherish his memory; a sister, Nicole Cipriano and her husband Nunzio of Watertown; a paternal grandfather Jose L. Martins of Portugal; a maternal grandmother, Benedita S. Vaz of Spring Hill, FL; an aunt and Godparents, Helena Casimiro and her husband Tony of Bethel; two additional aunts, Bernadette Nata and Linda Daluz and her husband Sergio all of Spring Hill, FL; two uncles, John Vaz and his wife Dolores of Brooksville, FL and James Vaz of Waterbury; several cousins; and many friends and colleagues. He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Maria do Nacimiento de Brito Martins, and his maternal grandfather, John Vaz.
Arrangements: David's calling hours will be held Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway in Waterbury. David’s funeral will be held Monday at 9:00 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home to Our Lady of Fatima Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 p.m.. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, 249 Cross Street in Naugatuck.
