George was the very first Roman Catholic Deacon of Waterbury, CT, and passionately served in that capacity for 50 years. He began serving the Archdiocese well before then as well, at his beloved St. Margaret’s Church that he was active in since birth, and also at St. Michael’s Church for many years. He was a founding member of Our Lady of Lebanon Church, and also served as a Roman Catholic chaplain for the State of CT for 11 years, where he received the Employee of the Year award several times. More recently he was a parishioner at Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Loretto Churches. He held a master’s degree in theology from St. Thomas’s Seminary of Bloomfield Ct.

He was scout master, and of the earliest active members of the Holy Cross High School father’s club, a former chairman of the democratic town committee, as well as a member of the board of ethics of Waterbury. George was a larger-than-life gentleman, and an icon of the greater Waterbury area. He was known for being an extremely honest and well-respected businessman. He was a completely dedicated husband and father of five children. George was an enormously devout Roman Catholic deacon, with a very caring, charismatic, and genuine personality and possessed an impeccable reputation. He most loved his 68-year marriage to his wife Dolores and enjoyed visiting and dining with his family.
George leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Rosemary Cullen of Waterbury, Maureen Hajjar of Waterbury, and Dr. George Jude Hajjar of Prospect. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Krista Cullen, Robert Cullen, David Hajjar, Laurice Hajjar, Marella Hajjar, George Hajjar and Joseph, and great-grandchildren Layla and Olivia. He was predeceased by his sons, David and Michael Hajjar, and his three sisters, Sadie Devino, Marie Connor, Madeline Compton.
