Obituary: Della F. Briggs of Oxford

She worked at The Commercial Credit Union and Sikorsky Aircraft in the Electrical Dept. before retirement.

Della F. Briggs, a longtime Oxford, CT resident and wife of the late Michael E Briggs Sr, passed away suddenly on March 1. She was the daughter of Charles and Eleanor (Ranney) Fowler.

Della was educated in the Fair Haven VT school system before going to Washington D.C. to work for the Dept. of the Navy. It served as a great experience before returning to Vermont and working for The Commercial Credit Union. Della later worked for Sikorsky Aircraft in the Electrical Dept. before retirement.

Della was an active assistant in the local Girl Scouts Chapter and also with The Oxford Garden Club. The annual plant sale was a big success for many years. She also participated in many other projects including making ornaments and decorating the Christmas tree at the Oxford Library.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by sisters Diane Fowler & Doris VanLew and brothers Donald & Delbert Fowler. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Michelle (Paul) Sharry of Scituate, MA and son Michael E Briggs Jr. (JoAnn) of Seymour, CT. She also leaves her loving grandchildren Michael Briggs III, Nicholas Sharry, Mallory Briggs, Morgan Sharry, Jack Briggs and Christopher Sharry.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia. Burial will follow in Southford Cemetery in Oxford. Donations in her memory may be made to the Oxford Historical Society.
