“Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle”

It is with profound sadness, that we announce the passing of our dad, Mr. Donald A. Santarsiero, 84, of Plantsville on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, who passed peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine J. (Taglia) Santarsiero who predeceased him in 2018.

Don was born in Waterbury on May 20, 1938, son of the late Vito and Michelina “Lena” (Cerullo) Santarsiero. Don was a graduate of Leavenworth High School Class of 1956, and then went to the University of Connecticut. Being a man with a strong work ethic, Don owned and operated Hamilton Avenue Discount Liquor for over forty-seven years where he formed lifelong friendships with many, having worked there up until just a few weeks ago before his passing. Over the years Don also owned and managed several real estate properties throughout his career, and was a longtime member of the Aviglianese Club of Waterbury.

Being an avid golfer, Don was a former member of the Watertown Golf Club and Chippanee Country Club of Bristol for many years until his older age. Throughout his life, Don loved traveling the world with his beloved Lorraine, where they visited several different countries and continents. Above everything else, Don’s greatest joy and accomplishment was his family, he adored his two daughters and two grandchildren with all his heart.

Don leaves to honor and cherish his memory his two daughters, Wendy Anne Santarsiero and Rebecca Faroni, both of Plantsville, his brother, Vito Santarsiero and his wife Theresa of Waterbury, his grandchildren, Alexandra Faroni and James Faroni of Plantsville, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, family members, and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Jonathan Santarsiero, and his sister, Laura Dunston.

A special message:

Daddy, we love you more than words can ever describe. A piece of our hearts will forever be missing. Your love was unconditional and your hugs could cure all. We’re not sure how to go through this life without you, but you taught us to have faith, be strong, and never give up. We were lucky to be blessed to have you as our dad. Thank you for loving us enough to last ten life times.

Arrangements: A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, January 14, 2023, 12:00 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial, The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. Burial will be at a later date and held privately at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the service begins at 12:00 noon at the funeral home.
