Obituary: Douglas W. Schulte, 74, of Prospect

Doug was employed at Patt and Whitney for over forty years before his retirement in 2006.

Douglas W. Schulte, 74, of Prospect, died peacefully while surrounded by his family at LiveWell Center of Plantsville on Thursday, January 20, 2022. Doug was the beloved husband of Joan (Francis) Schulte for over 49 years. He was born in Waterbury on June 16, 1947, the son of the late Andrew and Helen (O’Connell) Schulte.


Doug proudly served his country in the US Marine Corp. during the Vietnam era attaining the rank of Corporal. He received his Associates Degree from Mattatuck Community College and a BA in Business Administration from the University of New Haven. Doug was employed at Patt and Whitney for over forty years before his retirement in 2006.

Douglas spent many of his weekends with his friends as a Civil War reenactor with the Second CT Heavy Artillery. He enjoyed traveling the country with his friends and family. His absolute favorite destination was Disney World, where he took his grandchildren many times. Doug left big shoes to fill. He left a legacy of loving dedication to his wife and sons, friends and country. His legacy will live on in his sons Scott and Mike.

Left to cherish his love and memory are Doug’s wife Joan, sons Scott and wife,Tara, of Waterbury and Mike and wife, Danielle, of Naugatuck and his devoted grandchildren Sammie and Ian. Doug is also survived by his sister Patricia Gucciardi and husband Tony of New Jersey and a sister Elizabeth Sturges.

A special thank you to the staff of 2A for the wonderful care given to Doug during his stay at Livewell.


A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 10:30 AM St. Anthony Church, 4 Union City Rd. Prospect. The funeral home will be open at 9:30 AM with procession departing the funeral home at 10:15 AM


Burial with military honors will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery. Friends and family may visit with Doug’s family on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Prospect Memorial/ The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Rd., Prospect.
