Obituary: Ercolino “Eric” Massari, 99 of Waterbury,

Ercolino, who proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, died at Beacon Brook Health Care Center.

ERCOLINO MASSARI
“Loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather”
Ercolino “Eric” Massari, age 99 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully Saturday February 18, 2023 at Beacon Brook Health Care Center in Naugatuck. He was the beloved widower of Philomena (Digliani) Massari.


Ercolino was born June 28, 1923 in Waterbury, a son of the late Giovanni and Lucia (Delle Monache) Massari. Prior to his retirement in 1988, Eric worked as a calibrator at Bristol Babcock for many years. Ercolino proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II where he served in the C.B.I. (China – Burma – India) theatre as a sergeant with the famed Merrill’s Marauders. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, a Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Infantry Badge, four Bronze Battle Stars, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Metal and several other medals and ribbons. He was a life member of the DAV Chapter 11, VFW Post 7330 in Oakville, CBIVA (China – Burma – India Veterans Association) as well as the Merrill’s Marauders Association. He was awarded the US Army Ranger Tab in 2021 and was an honorary member of the Waterbury Veterans Memorial Committee and was the 1st World War II veteran honored as Mayor of the day in Waterbury. Eric was an avid reader and enjoyed watching the UCONN Women’s Basketball team.

He leaves his children John Massari and his wife Karen of Waterbury, a daughter Linda Bronkowski and her husband Eugene of Murietta, CA, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews especially Ralph Massari and his wife Donna, as well as his longtime companion Ann Demsky. He was predeceased by his brother Ralph M. Massari.


Arrangements: Funeral Friday at 9:00 AM from Chase Parkway Memorial/Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway to Our Lady of Mount Carmel church to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Burial with full military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. Calling hours Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
