By day she worked diligently as an administrative assistant in Fairfield middle schools, eventually working full time as the assistant to the Dean of Administration at Norwalk Community College. A stroke in her late 40s did not slow her down when she turned her attention to craft projects and decorating her home.

The loves of her life were her husband, Richard Braca, who was her partner for over 55 years, and her son Jonathan Chernes. Her best friend was her sister, Sharon Oakley, and she adored her nephews Christopher, Joshua, and Matthew whose photos, drawings, and notes adorned the walls of her home.
