He is predeceased by his parents. Anastasia Sarantopoulos and Nicholas Fountas and his wife Agnes Leondires Fountas of 67 years. He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Capturing his life and impact to those he knew and to the world are ineffable and to attempt it will do him no justice. While a person of unique ability, George was as humble as he was wise, kind and thoughtful in all he did and with every person fortunate enough to spend time with him.
He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather; a gifted chemist; an instrument certified pilot, a Power Squadron instructor for navigation; a sailor; a Master Mason of the 3rd degree; a volunteer for many causes that touched his heart; an amateur brewer; and a beekeeper. He loved music of all kinds, to sing, dance, and fly fish.
His parting words were “do the best you can, take good care of yourself, I love you, don’t forget to smell the roses”.
He jokingly claimed to be a direct descendent of Socrates. And lived as Plato described Socrates in Phaedo when replying to Crito’s question of Socrates: “How shall we bury you?” “However you please if you can catch me, and I do not get away from you.”
Arrangements: Services for George will be announced at a later date. Chase Parkway Memorial, the Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, has been entrusted with handling George’s funeral arrangements.
