James Anthony DeRienzo, Jr.
“Beloved Husband, Father, Grandpa and Brother”
WATERBURY, CT - James Anthony DeRienzo, Jr. passed away peacefully on Saturday February 6, 2021 at the age of 67. He was the devoted husband of Karen (Nigro) DeRienzo.
Born in Waterbury on December 13, 1953, Jim was the son of the late James A. and Josephine A. (Labella) DeRienzo Sr. He was a graduate of Wilby High School, Class of 1971 and went on to attend Western Connecticut State University where he met his wife Karen. Jim played football at both schools and loved sharing those memories.

Jim’s life was dedicated to his family and operating the Spirit Shop in Waterbury for over 40 years. Like many small business owners, he was defined by his hard work and perseverance. Jim acquired many close friendships in his lifetime. He will be sadly missed by his loved ones.
In addition to Karen, his wife of 43 years, Jim is survived by his sons, James A. DeRienzo III and his wife, Carla of Cheshire, and Joseph P. DeRienzo of Waterbury, and his daughter Laura M. DeRienzo of Southbury and her fiancé, John L. Guerrera of Waterbury. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, James A. DeRienzo IV and Michael D. DeRienzo and his sister, Paula J. DeRienzo and her partner, Mark R. Bostwick, of Port Charlotte, FL as well as several sisters and brothers in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

His graveside service will be held on Monday, February 22, 2021 at 11:00am at Calvary Cemetery, 2324 E. Main St., Waterbury. Everyone is asked to meet at the Calvary Cemetery office. Walk-through calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2021 from 2:00-5:00pm at Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury. Everyone attending services will be required to wear face masks and social distancing guidelines will be strictly followed.
