February 24, 1943 ~ February 14, 2021 (age 77)

TORRINGTON, CT - John R. Sangster, 77, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Bohannan) Sangster for 55 years.

John was born February 24, 1943, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late George “Mitchell” and Edith (Monahan) Sangster. He was employed by the Watertown Board of Education as a Teacher until his retirement in 2000. Following his retirement, he worked for 13 years as a teacher at Torrington Christian Academy. He volunteered for many years at the First Assembly of God Church in Torrington and was currently a Service Partner at New Life Church in Enfield, CT.
In addition to his wife, Pat, he is survived by two sons, Ryan Sangster and his wife Melissa of Torrington, CT, Rev. David Sangster and his wife Lisa of Windsor, CT; one daughter, Jessica DiCicco and her husband Paul of Millbury, MA; one sister, Marsha Thompson of Pleasantville, NY; one brother, William Sangster of West Haven, CT; eleven grandchildren, three nieces, and one nephew.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 19, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT. Funeral services will be private. Relatives and friends attending calling hours and funeral services are reminded to follow CDC recommendations for COVID prevention by social distancing and wearing protective face masks.
