The matriarch of the family and the family historian, Dolly was the best storyteller when it came to recalling tales of the past.

Loving Mother and Grandmother

Josephine “Dolly” M. (Dente) Copes, age 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at Beacon Brook Healthcare Center. She was the loving wife of the late Edward Copes.


Born in Waterbury, on February 26, 1929, Dolly was the daughter of the late Prospero and Anna (Maiorano) Dente. She was a graduate of Wilby High School, Class of 1947 and worked in the retail industry for many years for several local stores including Worth’s, Lerner’s, and The Rose Shop. She was a former parishioner of St. Michael’s Church in Waterbury and of Our Lady of Sorrows in Orange.

The matriarch of the family and the family historian, Dolly was the best storyteller when it came to recalling tales of the past. She was an avid reader, interested in history and art, and enjoyed movies and Broadway plays. She bowled in many duckpin bowling leagues in Waterbury for over 30 years. Dolly loved to travel and loved her trips to California and Florida to visit family as well as trips to Newport, RI.


Dolly is survived by her daughter Arlene Junko and her husband Steve of Southington, her beloved grandchildren Michael Junko of Southington, David Junko of Southington, Haley Copes of New York City, NY, and Kenneth Copes and his girlfriend Erica of Waterbury. She also leaves her sister-in-law Vera Dente of Santa Rosa, CA, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dolly was predeceased by her son Kenneth Copes and his wife Leanne Copes and her brother Salvatore Dente.

Dolly’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Beacon Brook Health Center with special thanks to those who became her second family; Annette, Carolyn, Kelio, Gigi, and Fay for their kindness, compassion, and exceptional care shown to Dolly during her years there.
