Obituary: Loren B. Kahn, 75, of Watertown

WATERTOWN- Loren B. Kahn, 75 died peacefully on October 22, 2022, at the Village at East Farms. Loren was the loving husband for 46 years to Sheila (Ptacosky) Kahn.
Loren was born in Waterbury on November 20, 1946, to the late Naomi (Letsky) and Sidney Kahn. He spent twelve years of his youth living in Germany, where his Father was an employee of the United States Army. He graduated from Bloomfield High School, where he lettered in tennis. He went on to graduate from the University of Connecticut and earn his master’s degree at Central Connecticut State University. Loren served our country in the United States Army as a Military Police in South Korea and at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Loren taught Math at Rochambeau Middle School in Southbury for 28 years. Rochambeau was also where he met the love of his life, Sheila. Upon his retirement from teaching, he continued to share his love of Math with students, by becoming a tutor at the Gunnery in Washington, CT.
Loren was an avid biker and hiker. He loved to explore Connecticut on foot and on bike. He loved to read (especially Math books), bake bread, travel, go to tag sales on Saturday morning, bird watch and eat! He also loved listening to classical music, especially Brahms. He and Sheila made great memories on their trips to various locations around the world.

In addition to his wife, he leaves to mourn his loss his sisters, Paisley Kahn George of Santa Barbara, CA. and Aviva Kahn Furchtgott of Oak Park, IL. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Mary Lou Mancini; his nephew Michael (Kelly) Furchtgott; his nieces Lisa Furchtgott, Carin Mancini, Beth (Craig) Goldsnider and Janice (Ron) Mals, and four great nephews. He also leaves his cousins in Maine – Robin, Peggy, and Gary. His two cats and companions, Gemma and Bosco also miss him immensely. He was pre-deceased by his brothers-in-law David Furchtgott and Angelo Mancini.
Loren was a kind and gentle man, who usually had a smile on his face. He loved nature. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and he loved spending time with family.
The family wants to thank the staff at the Village at East Farms and the Trinity Health at Home Hospice staff who cared for him with compassion and dignity. A special thank you to Marnee, RN, and Yasmin for their comfort to Sheila and Loren over the last five weeks.
A celebration of Loren’s life will be held on Saturday, November 5th at 1:00PM at Hickcox Funeral Home located at 195 Main Street, Watertown,
