WATERBURY, CT - Lt. Michael Anthony Silva, 49, of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 20, 2010 at his home.

Michael was born in Hyannis, MA on December 14, 1961, son of Anna Marie ( Silva) Thomas of Watertown. He was a graduate of Wilby High School, class of 1979. He was a member of the Waterbury Police Department. Previously he served for six years with the Meriden Police Department. In Waterbury, he rose through the ranks, beginning as a Patrolman, then becoming a Detective, Sergeant, and finally a Lieutenant. He worked in forensics for 13 years and was the head of that department for the last five years. He assisted in the solving of numerous high profile cases through his expertise in forensics, specifically latent fingerprints.

Besides his mother, he leaves his brother: R. Dennis Silva and his wife Karen of Watertown, four grandchildren: Javier Martinez, Jonathan Martinez, Jared Martinez, Giana Marie Silva, his maternal grandmother: Mary Lopes of Waterbury, a nephew: Daniel Silva, four loving cousins with whom he lived and grew up with: Natalie Pina, Maryann Jones, Charles Pina, and Jeffrey Roderick. He was predeceased by his daughter: Jeannette Silva.

Arrangements: Funeral 9:00 a.m Thursday December 23 rd at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway to Waterbury Bible Church, 240 Dwight Street, Waterbury for a Service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday from 5:00 -8:00 at p.m. at the funeral home.
