Obituary: Lynda (Anthony) Ieronimo, 84, of Plymouth

She began her teaching career for the city of Waterbury in 1960, where she taught first grade at both Russell and Barnard schools.

Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother


Lynda (Anthony) Ieronimo, age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. She was the devoted wife of Michael R. Ieronimo.

Born in Waterbury on December 4, 1939, Lynda was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Cianciulli) Anthony. She was a graduate of Wilby High School and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Central CT State College in 1961 but began her teaching career for the city of Waterbury in 1960, where she taught first grade at both Russell and Barnard schools. She received her Master’s Degree in Art in 1970 from Central CT State College.

After taking time off to raise her five children, Lynda returned to teaching in the Plymouth school system. She began as a Title 1 teacher and worked many years as an art teacher before retiring in 2000 as a third-grade teacher at Plymouth Center School. After her retirement, she volunteered in the Plymouth school system doing face painting at fairs, reading to the classes, and participated in many other activities. An accomplished artist, Lynda painted and created wood carvings, stained glass, and illustrations for children’s books for her grandchildren.

Loving and kind, Lynda was devoted to her family. Her happiest times were Friday night pizza (where she became famous for scissor-cut pizza), Sunday lunch with her entire family, family vacations, gardening, raising her grandchildren, and traveling the world with her husband, family, and friends.

In addition to Michael, her loving husband of 60 years, Lynda is survived by her five children Lynn Ieronimo of Plymouth, Lauren Ieronimo Elias (Tom Abraham) of Harwinton, Michael Ieronimo (Christine) of Plymouth, Karen Ieronimo Griffin (Michael) of East Haddam, and David Ieronimo (Cathy) of Plymouth; her grandchildren Ashley Hamilton (Jason), Corey Elias, Jordan Possemato (Michael), Kyle Elias, Jack Ieronimo (Ruby), Amy Ieronimo (Jared), Abbey Cianciolo (Spencer), Alex Ieronimo (Jessica), Diana Ieronimo (Jordan), Nicholas Ieronimo, Emily Ieronimo, and Eva Ieronimo; and her great-granddaughter Arya Hamilton. Lynda also leaves her siblings Dr. J. Robert Anthony (Ada) of Cheshire; Carol Amedeo (Pete) of Prospect, and John “Jack” Anthony (Peggy) of Pittsfield, MA; her brothers-in-law Frank Ieronimo (Marie) of Waterbury and Vincent Ieronimo of Waterbury; and her sister-in-law Stella Passaro of Prospect as well as many generations of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her brothers-in-law Salvatore Ieronimo and Henry Passaro.


Lynda’s family would like to extend their thanks to all of the staff at Cook Willow Health Center in Plymouth and to her wonderful at-home caregivers Joann, Diana, and Aylene for their exceptional care and compassion.

Lynda’s funeral will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024 at 10:00am from Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury to Saint Thomas Church in Thomaston for a Mass at 11:00am. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 1:00-4:00pm.
