Obituary: Mardelle Constance (Wade) Ruffin, 78, of Waterbury

She worked in the Waterbury Public School System for over 30 years.

Mardelle Ruffin

Mrs. Mardelle Constance (Wade) Ruffin, age 78, of Waterbury, CT was born to her earthly life on June 15, 1945, and born to her eternal life on Sunday, January 7, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Marjorie (Dunham) Wade; four brothers, Brinkley Wade, Ronald Wade, Delmon Wade, Theodore Wade; three sisters, Claudette Wade Delgado, Stephanie Wade Hunter, Ann Wade Parks; and great grandson, Javari Zion Williams.

Sister Ruffin was a lifelong faithful and dedicated member of Mt. Olive AME Zion church, she was a Stewardess and Deaconess, she also served as the Director of the Buds of Promise, the Cherubim Children Choir Director, a member of the Mass Choir, Woman’s Choir and Assistant of the Senior Center.

Mardelle graduated from Crosby High School in 1963. She continued her education at Western Connecticut State University, where she graduated magna cum laude earning a Bachelor of Science in Education. Mardelle was a retired educator. She worked in the Waterbury Public School System for over 30 years.

Mardelle was a loving wife, mother, nana, aunt, and friend who will be missed by all. Despite her small stature, her presence was larger than life. Mardelle had a way of bringing joy and laughter with her everywhere she went. Her wisdom and sound advice has impacted generations of students, friends and family members. She was also known for her thoughtful, caring, generous and loving nature. She enjoyed reading, dancing, singing, bowling, going to the theater, casino and playing cards. Above all, Mardelle cherished spending time with family and friends.

Mardelle leaves to honor her memory her husband of 46 years, John Ruffin; three daughters, Claudette (Carlton) Eaton of Snellville, GA, Kimberly (Christopher) Thomas of Concord, NC, and Kellie (Andre) Williams of Waterbury, CT; 10 Grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler and Chantel Eaton, Jared and Brianah Young, Brandon and CJ Thomas, DeAndre, Adrien and Andrew Williams; as well as a host of relatives and close friends.
