NAUGATUCK, CT -Maria Arlete (Almeida) Azevedo, 91, of Naugatuck, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the VITAS Inpatient Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose L. Azevedo.

Maria was born in Gafanha da Encarnacao, Portugal on October 27, 1929, a daughter of the late Manuel and Ausenda (Prancho) Almeida. She worked for EFC in Waterbury for 15 years before her retirement in 1994. Maria, a deeply devout Catholic, appreciated the simple things in life and treasured spending time with her family.

Maria leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Heldier Azevedo and his wife, Dr. Cherie Villano, of Brookfield, CT, and Nelson Azevedo and his wife, Idalina of Danbury, CT, two daughters, Teresa Azevedo of Waterbury, CT, and Olinda Paula Azevedo and her husband, Jose Perez, of Ridgewood, NJ, and her loving grandchildren, Paulo Sergio, Michael, Tony, Danny, Mark and Bobby Soares, Gabriel A. de Oliveira, and Ashley and Mathew Azevedo. She was predeceased by her sibling, Zacarias, Maria, Joao and Celso Almeida.

Arrangements: All services will be private. There are no calling hours. Burial will be held at a later date at the Gafanha da Encarnacao Cemetery in Portugal. Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT has been entrusted with Maria’s arrangements.
