Obituary: Maria A. Sequeira, 73, of Prospect

For many years Maria worked as a school bus driver for the City of Waterbury and the town of Prospect until her retirement.

“Loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister”

Maria A. Sequeira, 73 of Prospect, entered into the gates of heaven surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at the Village at East Farms. She was the loving wife of Jorge M. Sequeira of fourty-seven years.

Maria was born on March 1, 1949 in Chaves, Portugal, daughter of the late Alipio and Ana (Alves) Salgado. After marrying her husband Jorge, they journeyed to the United States in 1975. For many years Maria worked as a school bus driver for the City of Waterbury and the town of Prospect until her retirement. She was woman of faith and was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Maria enjoyed her sweets, was a talented seamstress and crocheter, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren whom she adored.

Besides her loving husband Jorge of Prospect, Maria leaves behind to cherish her memory her two daughters, Norma Sequeira and her significant other Jorge Meralla of East Haven, and Nancy Dion and her husband Robert of Roswell, GA. She also leaves behind her brothers, Antonio Salgado of Waterbury, Jose Salgado and his wife Helena of Prospect, Candido Salgado and his wife Marina of Waterford, her sisters, Matilde Amado and her husband Ernesto of Brazil, Teresa Teixeira and her husband Albano of Prospect, Vera Peres and her husband Americo of Portugal, and her four beloved grandchildren, Ajani Davis, Anabelle Sequeira, Juliette Dion, and Jordan Dion, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Arrangements: A funeral will be held on Monday, November 28, 2022, 9:00 a.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial, The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway to Our Lady of Fatima Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Waterbury. Calling hours will be held Monday morning from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
