Obituary: Maria Soares, 90, of Naugatuck

Maria worked as a seamstress for Modern Fashions in Watertown and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

NAUGATUCK, CT - (From Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home) Maria Soares, 90, of Naugatuck, died Wednesday, October 7th, 2020 at Beacon Brook Health Center. She was the widow of Fausto Pereira.

Maria was born in Portugal April 7th, 1930, daughter of the late Manuel Soares and Virginia Domingues Fontoura. She came to the United States in 1983.

She worked as a seamstress for Modern Fashions in Watertown. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church. She enjoyed cooking , gardening, and visiting Portugal. She loved spending time with her family and was especially devoted to her grandchildren.

Maria leaves her son Manuel Pereira of Portugal; daughters Maria Armanda Bastos, Maria Fatima Ribeiro, Cecilia Pereira and Maria Margarita Soares; brothers Joseph, Fernando and Manuel Soares; sister Maria Cecilia Fontoura Soares; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Beacon Brook Health Center for the compassion and care they provided Maria during her stay.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Friday October 16th, 2020 at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Waterbury. Burial will be in lugar da igreja da Branca Cemetery, Portugal. Friends are asked to meet directly at church.
