“Loving husband & wife, father & mother, and grandparents”

WATERBURY, CT - Mr. & Mrs. Marvin & Edith (Hertel) Riback, both passed away, four hours apart from each other after being married for 63 years, on the early morning of Sunday, November 29, 2020, at Apple Rehabilitation Center in Waterbury. Marvin was 90 years old and Edith was 93 years old.

Marvin was born in the Bronx, NY on June 25, 1930, son of the late Robert and Syd (Hyman) Riback. Proudly having served his country, Marvin is a veteran of the United States Airforce serving during the Korean Conflict.


Edith was born in Germany on June 12, 1927, daughter to the late Paul and Else Hertel. Living in Germany during World War II, Edith was a holocaust survivor. While on tour in Germany, Marvin met the love of his life, Edith and she returned to the United States with Marvin where they started a new life together.


After his military career, Marvin started his career at Timex Corp. in Middlebury and also worked for the United States Government until his retirement in 1992 and Edith proudly was a homemaker to her family and children.


Marvin and Edith each enjoyed their own hobbies. For Marvin, he enjoyed going out of his boat and fishing, and Edith loved tending to her garden and cooking homemade meals in her kitchen. Edith took great pride and helping raise her grandchildren, something she was very proud of.
Marvin and Edith leave behind to cherish their memory their two children, Gary Riback of Thomaston and Lisa Kaye and her husband Stuart of Watertown, as well as their four beloved grandchildren, Christina Chicano, Allison Riback, Samantha Riback and Jesse Kaye, all of Watertown. Edith was predeceased by her father Paul, her mother Else and her sister Else of Germany.

Arrangements: All funeral services for Marvin and Edith are going to be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Chase Parkway Memorial, the Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, has been entrused with handling Marvin and Edith’s funeral arrangements.
